Though not all military spending is used for war- There's also DARPA, which has robots and invented the internet.

The internet is based on packet switched computer networking. Without that, there would be no internet.

Donald Davies, a British scientist, invented packet switched computer networking, essentially inventing the internet.

You don't seem to know what ARPANET is. Mr. Davies did think of the concept, but ARPANET actually put it into action.

Not to mention we are probably the most geographically and culturally diverse country there is. We are a microcosm of the rest of the world.

I can't argue with that. Although there's nowhere quite like or as beautiful as the English countryside. Except maybe New Zealand.

Close, but no quite the same. Not the beauty of the endless green fields and hills dotted with grazing livestock, and the odd farmhouse that you find in the Derbyshire Dales.
Nor does it quite match the brilliance of the Yorkshire moors, with its bleak, yet beautiful rugged landscape, tinted pink and purple by the heather which grows there. And the stone walls and old manor houses lost far in the distance.

The view from my bedroom window is simply astounding, and I hardly live in truly rural Britain. (Except at the moment bloody gypsies have moved onto the field opposite my house with their fairground, which means I won't be getting any sleep, and the view from my window is blotted out and ruined by the bloody fairground).

Well, Illinois has some skyscrapers, industry, coal mines, and oil wells, and a LOT of corn and soybeans. And the occasional 1990 Ford Ranger flying a confederate flag in Little Egypt.

Extreme southern Illinois has some southern influences. The southern tip of Illinois is only about 60 miles from Tennessee, and farther south than Richmond, VA. The southern 3 tiers of counties in Illinois are pretty southern in culture, accent, etc. A state's border does not necessarily define a culture's border.

In Amsterdam, a world wide convention of brewers was held.
The presidents of many of the world’s greatest breweries were on hand, and many of them decided to go out for dinner together on the first evening. The waiter asked what they would like to drink, and the CEO of Miller said, “The Best Beer in the world, an MGD please!”
The president of Budweiser asked for “The King of Beers, make it a Bud!”. Adolph Coors requested a “From mountain spring water, the clearest beer, a Coors if you don’t mind.”
And so it went around the large table, each president asking for the brew from his own company as if it was the best. Finally, the waiter came to Arthur Guinness. “And you sir?” he queried. “I’ll have a Coke!” was Guinness’s reply. “A Coke??!?” The waiter was shocked. “Wouldn’t you rather have a Guinness, sir?”
Arthur looked at the waiter, and gestured to his companions. “Well,” he said, “If they’re not drinking beer, then neither will I!”

You say this assumption blindly, for you have never been to any other place outside of your general region.

I have been to many places, including the Rockies, and although they are scenic, they are by no means "the most beautiful place in the world."

Agreed, but you can't make a blind statement if you have never been anywhere else. Then, you are simply saying you think it is beautiful because you have lived there all your life, which is biased.

And we all know biased opinions are faulty, and selfishness. A characteristic of human nature.

You don't have a control group for your hypothesis.

Biased opinions are the reason why the world is dysfunctional. Nationalism, agendas, and people trying to prove they are right, even when they are obviously wrong. We are all trying to prove one country, region, or idea, is better than another, when in reality it doesn't matter in the slightest bit.

Sit down Zan, LM, and a1. Just sit down. I refuse to hear it anymore. A dose of harmony is needed.
